The Tarot is a tool that allows you to tap into your intuition. It bridges the gap between your physical and spiritual world and puts you in touch with your inner self. The cards of the tarot allow you to look into a dimension of your world that you otherwise may not be able to access. The Tarot can be predictive but generally offers you an alternate view or new perspective into self understanding, spiritual growth, clarification of decisions and everyday problems.
Divination is by far the most popular and well-known use of the Tarot. Sometimes this is seen as an extension of the uses mentioned above because often we can perceive the signs of future events subconsciously. ie: You might be subconsciously aware that a marriage or job is in trouble, before you admit it to yourself. Even chance selections can force you to consider concepts that you have been ignoring.
Many Tarot readers believe that the cards take on the energy of the person who touches them. The cards are insulated from others by wrapping them in silk or enclosing them in a box, and they are only touched by the diviner and the person for whom the reading is done.

Reversed Meanings In Tarot

Many readers view the cards as already containing their opposite right-side up so do not read reversals. The way to omit them from a reading is to make sure all cards are right side up before shuffling. The way to include them is to flip some around at random before shuffling. If you choose to include them in your readings, reversals can often provide interesting insight. Although they do add a little extra confusion for new readers, they also encourage readers to look at individual cards in a different light. With Court cards, which many find confusing, reversals can be particularly helpful. The easiest way to interpret Court cards is to take them as representing actual people who have the characteristics described in card definitions. This is actually made easier when reversals are included because you then have a broader range of personality types. The simplest way to include reversals in a reading is to choose what the standard meaning of a card is to you. Then take the reversal to indicate it's opposite. Pay attention to what happens to the images on the card when they're reversed. For example, in most decks' Tower card, two figures are falling out of the Tower on their heads. If the card is reversed, they're landing on their feet. So, you can take the upright Tower to mean a chaotic situation leaves you feeling out of control, reversed to mean that it's chaotic but you land on your feet.
Here is a brief guide to reversed meanings of the Major Arcana: FOOL: You've wised up or need to MAGICIAN: You feel you've lost the tools to get the job done; HIGH PRIESTESS: You've let the cat out of the bag EMPRESS: A lack of creativity; EMPEROR: You've lost the will to do what is needed HEIROPHANT: Setbacks LOVERS: You've changed your mind CHARIOT: Wasting time JUSTICE: Irrationality HERMIT: Social activity WHEEL OF FORTUNE: A run of bad luck STRENGTH: Physical illness HANGED MAN: Feeling a situation is not worth sacrifice DEATH: A situation you thought was over is still effecting you TEMPERANCE: Alcohol or drug abuse, unbalanced emotions THE DEVIL: Liberation from a bad situation THE TOWER: Coming out on top of a chaotic situation THE STAR: Giving up hope THE MOON: You'll learn more about a situation you felt in the dark about THE SUN: Money problems, lack of clarity JUDGMENT: Changing your mind about a major decision THE WORLD: Lack of communication

Learn Tarot
How to learn tarot - basic guidelines

"Study the cards and learn their meanings. Practice a lot, on yourself, friends, or total strangers as suits your personal leanings. Eventually, you should get pretty good."Well, that's one way to look at it. And certainly one SHOULD take every opportunity to practice. However, I'm not so sure that everyone 'should get pretty good.'Tarot Novice's Rules and Guidelines;1. To learn tarot DO use formal structured readings, where card positions mean something specific like 'past influences' or 'hopes and fears'. You are a beginner remember? Treat this as you would any learning experience---take it one step at a time. You can get creative after you've mastered the basics. Where do you get the structured layouts? Almost all decks come with an LB (little booklet), that will explain a basic layout, usually some form of Keltic Cross. and you can find many layout suggestions in tarot books.2. To learn tarot DO ritualize (at least a little bit) what you are doing - it will help you remember what is supposed to be going on. By this I mean - light candles, evoke your favorite spirit guide, or simply be very methodical and careful about what you are doing - some of the worst readers I've seen are sometimes the ones whose basic talents are superior to others. They get so convinced they've 'got it' after a year or so of reading (sometimes after a week or so) they get sloppy and careless, thinking it is all so 'obvious'. Their innate talents never are allowed to evolve beyond 'sloppy and careless' and they soon tire of reading altogether.3. To learn tarot DO trust that the cards will work for you - this does not have to be active 'faith', just trust, like you would trust that the rollercoaster is NOT going to fly off the tracks. Trust aids your self-confidence, the importance of which we will discuss below.4. DON'T act like some kid with a watch or a fly, prying things loose to see how and why they work. People frequently can not get their tarot skills back together again after smashing them to see how or if they 'work'. The fact is that reading is a skill based on talent, knowledge, experience and the I-word, intuition. You either got it or you don't. And I might add one additional component - courage or self-confidence. To the degree that reading is a performance-based medium of spiritual exchange one does need to have that trust element mentioned above and the self-confidence that they can 'do it' perfectly as well, if not better, than the next person.Bottom line, if you want to learn how to read cards, then study the symbolism, learn the meanings, and - practice, practice, practice.

Tarot Reading The Six Questions I Get Asked MostFate or Free Will The question of whether a card in the future position is absolutely 'gospel' is a matter which often baffles until experience is gelled with feeling. Because a card denotes a certain influence or event does not always mean that influence cannot be altered. Even as we talk about the future we begin to conceptualize it in a freer way and thus it may be modified or changed or even overthrown by the stronger ideas and thoughts of individual mind. In short the future is not carved in tablets of stone. 'Death' and 'Devil' CardsThe bogeys of the pack often put the fear of God into the person having the reading. These arcanum should be treated with the utmost care, opened up for discussion and never just taken at face value. Death gives the greatest opportunity for change, demands it in fact, and all life is change. 'The Devil' concerns the immediate negatives that the enquirer is unwilling to face or that someone closely connected is unwilling to face. Often death may appear after a demise, or the Devil may appear when there is ill-health or chicanery, but in terms of the future they are the darker side of life with which we constantly have to deal and not simply the villains of the piece.Reversed Cards A lot of people are perplexed by the fact that some cards when selected appear upside down, or reversed, and whether this should be taken into account. In actual fact, it is down to the individual understanding of the reader. Some tarot readers will 'read' a lot into reversed meanings and some will not. I personally do not. The tarot cards themselves are very much a focal point for the clairvoyant skills or the perceptions of whoever is reading them. Block Definitions Defining tarot card meanings is again at the discretion of the reader. A card falling in one spread in one position does not necessarily mean the same in another spread. The card meanings have to be integrated in an overall sense. Hence, the king of cups on one query will not always convey the same meaning to the reader in the next spread. The reader's ability to take in information over and above that of the main wisdom of the card is not only prerequisite but fundamental to the correct use of tarot. Otherwise, a stereotyped and contrived version of life and events will ensue and be more hindrance than help. Less is More! People often wonder whether the more tarot cards are actually spread the more information is forthcoming. Some readers may spread a lot of cards in order to fill in blanks if it's a complex or difficult subject, but mostly this is not the case. If you are learning the tarot try to avoid spreading too many cards, you will confuse yourself, certainly until more experienced. The brunt of the information on a good tarot reader is 'impactful' within the opening minutes and the added information tends to layer itself on what is already on the table. Unless the person being read for is blocked or afraid, in which case the reader may make the fight for access easier for themself by adding more cards Card Layout or Design There are many sorts of spreads and layouts and again its down to the individual likes and dislikes of whoever is reading. Some people don't need tarot at all and use ordinary playing cards. (Its a test of how your psychic abilities are developing if you can use an ordinary deck, but don't worry if you can't.) But if you are too busy worrying about your layout or spread design it may actually impede your right hand brain (intuitive faculty) so use the layout you are comfortable with. Simple layouts are best if you're learning: three cards laid horizontally and then perhaps three cards on top when the reading is unfolding. If you're receiving a reading, don't even give it consideration. Leave it to the reader - you don't go to the dentist and watch every single instrument he uses.

Tarot Reading
How to Read Tarot Quickly & Easily

You've bought a tarot deck and are eager to use it. You shuffle. You lay out a Celtic Cross. You're at a loss. The book that came with your deck lists dozens of meanings for each card. Which to choose? What to do? How to read them? Throw out the book! Separate the Major from the Minor and try this method instead of getting lost in the madness.
Divination can be easy. Shuffle the Major. Focus on the backs to clear your mind. Deal them in rows of three across. Place the odd card to the side. It represents the outcome.
Look at the cards. Their symbols activate the intuitive part of your brain. What do you think they mean? I strongly recommend considering this only with your mind and the guide below.
Identify patterns that strike you. Do you see shapes that seem to repeat? Are there similarities/opposites in the pictures that seem to jump out? Try to find a group that tells you a story. What is it? Use the guide below to help identify interconnections.
Patterns may occur left to right or more haphazardly. The first one you see identifies the major issue. For example: If Sun (money) is beside Magician (job) beside the Tower (chaos), this person's main issue is financial because of job chaos. Read the pattern like a sentence. Subsequent patterns illustrate other issues you or the person you're reading for have.
That’s right – you.
There are taboos about reading your own cards. This is because it’s difficult to be objective about yourself. Pretend they're someone else’s cards for better results.
When reading for another person, don't ask what's on their mind. You need to learn to pick up on it yourself. Additionally, their current idea of the problem is probably not the true problem at all. Usually current issues are the result of past events. Providing insights about these events is what then resolves current situations.

Next, make your own guide. Draw a Major card each day. Consider the figures and their environment. Write down the card & your impressions. At the end of the day, compare what you wrote down with what happened and record connections. When you've done this with each card, you'll have your own interpretation of the Major.
The Minor represent human experience:
Cups: Love; emotions
Swords: Conflict; mentality
Wands: Health; creativity
Pentacles: Money; business
To understand these, lay out each suit in order. You must use a deck with pictures in the Minor. If you love the Major of one deck but the Minor look like playing cards, get 2 decks and combine them. Write down what you think the story of each suit is. Use your interpretation of them as a guide.
Deck books are useful for interpreting court cards. Consult the meanings listed there and keep in mind the fact that they often represent real people. Assign the characteristics of the card to people in the situation at hand for more insight.
Use the Minor to elaborate on situations you've already identified. If you want to know more about a job issue, lay some Minor cards on top of the Magician and the surrounding pattern cards. Continue to do this for any situation you want more information about. Practice frequently on yourself and friends. The key to this method is to learn to trust your intuition. You'll be amazed how quickly your reading skills develop.

Tarot - Intuitive Tool
Self Help, Self Knowledge Or Divination Tool

Tarot Intuitive ToolAccording to some different Tarot schools, this can be understood as an instrument of self-help, self-knowledge or divination. It’s not rare to find those who defend it from one perspective, while others see or feel opposing views. For me, this is not relevant, maybe not even correct. I consider Tarot all these. Which must be clear in the reader’s and querent’s minds as they use it in that moment and for their own personal reasons. A Code of Ethics must guide the individual activity of Tarot reading. As a self-help tool, the reader uses Tarot for her/himself in order to go inside, know and guide some decision or direction. And can do the same with a querent.Used as a self-knowledge instrument, Tarot has, in my opinion, its most important position. This is so for both the person who uses it personally, as well for those around her/him. Carl Yung (1875-1961) a psychoanalyst from Switzerland, dedicated himself with much attention to Tarot in this field. Although, it is not imperative to be a psychoanalyst to work with the Tarot and translate it (even though I believe a taratologist must have skills in “help relationships”). Using this approach, each card is understood as a pictogram that is written, a mirror that reflects not only a personal image but a universal one – something Yung called “collective unconscious.” It is my belief and practice that this is the richest way to read Tarot; thus, there is great potential to help ourselves and other people.Maybe it is as a divination tool for which Tarot is best known. I believe this approach is as worthy as any of the others above. However, I do strongly believe the truest worth comes in how Tarot is translated by the “Tarotologist.”
I mirror and reflect on the words of Anthony Louis (Tarot Plain and Simple. 2003, p.1-2): “Tarot is one instrument that awakens our intuitive faculties and puts us in contact with our innermost self. It’s a metaphoric system that leads us to self discovery. Tarot links to our daily life and can help us to see more clearly the realities in our life.”In its essence Tarot is our portal to meditation, reflection, problem analyzing, decision clarification, self-understanding, spiritual growth and divination. So, Tarot allows us to reach a spiritual dimension in the Universe that would not be accessible in another way.
